Chronic pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is rare disease, and it is inflammation of pancreas, where its enzymes become activated and injure it. This can lead to haemorrhages, cysts formation (cavities), death or self grinding of the gland. Enzymes and toxins come into the blood and seriously damage other organs - heart, lungs, and kidneys. 

In chronic pancreatitis there is severe pain combined with bad functioning of pancreas, which influence digestive process and lost of weight. Chronic pancreatitis usually is a result of alcohol intake, gall-bladder stone disease, trauma of the abdomen, medicines, some inherited diseases and inborn anomalies of pancreas. 

Chronic pancreatitis is characterized with:

  • Heaviness and flatulence after meal. These complain increase after alcohol consumption and intake of fatty food.
  • Dizziness, eventually vomiting.
  • Lost of weight with good appetite. Lost of weight is due to decreased quantity digestive enzymes secreted from injured pancreas, and because of that the organism can not absorb the food.
  • In some cases diabetes can occur as a result of low quantity of insulin from injured pancreas.
  • The pain is not severe. It can be dull, constant or in crises. Usually it gets stronger after alcohol intake or feeding.
